Dr. David M. Coonrad, D.C.

Chiropractic, Homeopathy

Dr. David M. Coonrad established private practice in 1975, following graduation from Columbia Institute of Chiropractic. Compelled by an interest in the mind/body connection he began studying a wide range of natural, holistic healing methodologies, which included acupuncture, deep myofacial release techniques, applied kinesiology, and many other chiropractic methods. Dr. Lowell Ward, D.C., provided a huge influence with his breakthrough understanding to spinal bio-mechanics which currently provides the basic groundwork to our spinal correction methods. Additionally Dr. Dave studied extensively in the human potential movement as well as philosophy and psychology. Recently his studies have concentrated on Advanced Bio-structural Correction, sport injuries. Additionally, with Dr. Hailey’s input they are developing and applying specialized reflexes to clear muscular “short circuits” in the body which underlay many complaints.

Dr. Dave has treated many athletes from youth to professionals, including outstanding high school and collegiate athletes and professionals who have played for the NY Yankees, NY Giants and the NY Cosmos. Dr. Coonrad was also the team chiropractor for the Arsenal/World Class U-18 Girls National Semi-finalist soccer team. In 2005 the "soccer doctor" was selected as the team chiropractor for the Metrostars, the Major League Soccer team.

Through over 30 years of experience, he has accumulated techniques and philosophies, which provide consistent results for his practice members. He is currently synthesizing these methods into a model he has termed "Full Spectrum Living".

In addition, he is active in the community as a coach, referee and administrator of youth soccer. He is married and the father of 5 athletic children.

Dr. Hailey D. Coonrad, D.C.

Chiropractic, Sports Medicine

Dr. Hailey D. Coonrad joins the practice as a 2014 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Life University and was honored with induction into the Pi Tau Delta Chiropractic Honor Society. She was also awarded the Learning Theory and Critical Thought Award, as voted by her colleagues.

Athletics have been a major part of her life and lifestyle. In high school she played soccer, basketball and she ran track, all at the varsity level as a freshman. Most notably, she was a member of the 2001 Girls State Championship soccer team at Ramsey High School. She was a four-year starter on the team and eventually named team captain as a senior. She played travel soccer with the Arsenal/World Class Club U-18 team that competed for the prestigious National Championship in 2004 and 2005. The team was rated fourth in the country. Hailey went on to play in college at Lehigh University, where she was a four-year starter. In her freshman season she was awarded with Second-Team All Patriot League Honors.

Later as a junior she was elected by her teammates to be team captain. Unfortunately she suffered a season-ending knee injury, a torn ACL, in the 3rd game forcing her to take a medical redshirt that year. She went on to play 2 more seasons receiving First-Team All Patriot League Honors and Most Valuable Player awards. She was the only player in Lehigh Women’s Soccer history to be a three-year team captain. Her ACL injury and recovery gave her insight into the medical model and motivated her to choose chiropractic as a career.

While in school she specialized in sports injury diagnosis and treatment. She brings cutting-edge treatment, understanding and protocols to the practice. She also developed a passion for bringing chiropractic to families by introducing parents to the benefits of pediatric chiropractic care.

Hailey is excited and motivated to bring health and wellness to the families and athletes in the community through chiropractic care.

Sports Injury

Today's minor injury is tomorrow's major injury waiting to happen!

Flexibility could be considered one of the main indicators of our health. At birth and in our youth we are extremely flexible. As we age we tend to gradually lose flexibility. Any loss of motion is a loss of function and is therefore accompanied by a loss of health. This may occur on a very small level at first but typically continues to spread and intensify, gradually adding up to further restriction of the joint. Injury frequently occurs when we are pushing the newly restricted limit of muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Suddenly we notice we can't do what we used to be able to do and we don't know how that happened.

The other most common traumatic injury is a deep muscle bruise or a strain of a joint. Typically a truly healthy joint does not have restrictions. Most joint injuries occur to previously "tweaked" joints. A small, minor injury creates an environment that is susceptible to injury which, in turn, leads to a more significant strain/sprain type of injury. By utilizing a combination of the soft tissue techniques Dr. Dave and Dr. Hailey are able to aid your body in healing quickly—getting you back on the field as soon as possible.

Soft Tissue Manipulation

Neuro-muscular re-education and Graston Technique are effective methods of releasing adhesions and scar tissue which develop as a result of strain/sprain injuries.Residual pain, swelling and loss of motion are signs that you are developing adhesions and scar tissue. These lesions must be reconditioned so that the joint will function as close to normal as possible.

Classical Homeopathy

Linda Schefers Coonrad provides classical homeopathic care which enhances your bodies ability to heal itself. Homeopathy is a centuries-old healing method that utilizes diluted herbs, minerals and other substances to stimulate the body to heal itself. Over 200 years of outstanding results give homeopathy a significant place in natural health care.

When a joint is sprained/strained or injured the alignment of the joint can be altered. For normal joint function to be restored the bones of the joint must be aligned properly. This can be accomplished easily and painlessly by utilizing gentle and effective spinal and extremity adjusting techniques.

Once a joint is injured the muscles, ligaments and tendons that support the joint must be rehabilitated so that joint function is restored as fully as possible. Frequently, simple at home exercise programs will be effective at restoring the integrity of the joint.

Corrective Exercises

We teach our patients special "blueprint" exercises designed just for them to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction by as much as 30-40%.

Lifestyle Advice

We often find it helpful to "coach" our patients on certain activities they should avoid or do differently to avoid aggravating their particular health challenge. Our goal is to help every patient achieve a fulfilling and happy lifestyle full of the activities they enjoy most.
