“The Soccer Doctor” Joins MetroStars MLS Team
May 19, 2005 -- Paramus , NJ – Dr. David M. Coonrad, DC, “The Soccer Doctor”, has joined the medical staff of the MetroStars, the professional soccer team in the New York metropolitan area. Dr. Coonrad, a Bergen County-based chiropractor with nearly 30 years of experience, will be working with MetroStars head trainer Stu Schwerner at training sessions and home games during the 2005 season.
“There are many recurring injuries in soccer and other sports which chiropractic care can improve or eliminate,” said Dr. Coonrad. “Hip flexor, knee, ankle, neck and lower back pain are among the most common injuries experienced by professional and student athletes alike. Without early treatment, today’s minor injury frequently turns into tomorrow’s major injury. With the type of care I provide most major injuries can be avoided. When there is major injury, our treatments usually will get the player back on the field quickly.”
By utilizing a combination of different techniques Dr. Coonrad’s work has shown that the body can be healed quickly. Dr. Coonrad utilizes the following techniques when treating sports related injuries:
- SOFT TISSUE MOBILIZATION TECHNIQUE -- Residual pain, swelling and loss of motion are signs that you are developing adhesions and scar tissue. These lesions must be reconditioned so that the joint will function as close to normal as possible.
- MANIPULATION -- When a joint is sprained/strained or injured the alignment of the joint can be altered. For normal joint function to be restored the bones of the joint must be aligned properly. This can be accomplished easily and painlessly by utilizing gentle and effective spinal and extremity adjusting techniques.
- REHABILITATION -- Once a joint is injured the muscles, ligaments and tendons that support the joint must be rehabilitated so that joint function is restored as fully as possible. Frequently, simple exercise programs will be effective at restoring the integrity of the joint.
“We chose Dr. Coonrad based on his reputation within the soccer community,” said MetroStars trainer Stu Schwerner. “Dave’s knowledge of our sport and his ability to get players back on the field quickly will give us a distinct advantage this season.”
